The Story

Named for the hand-painted door — blue birds and blossom on a warm ground — that opens off the main passage. The kitchen is the other set piece: powder-blue gloss units against black marble, with a fluted breakfast bar and brass pendants. A sculpted, backlit ceiling wraps the living room, where a teal and gold geometric wall sits behind the seating.

Painted door — Aviary — 3BHK, Ghatlodiya — A hand-painted door: blue birds among blossom on a warm ground. It is the one fully decorative surface in the flat, which is what lets it carry the passage it opens onto.

Living feature wall — Aviary — 3BHK, Ghatlodiya — Teal and gold geometric paper behind the seating, held inside a panelled border. Framing the paper rather than running it wall to wall stops a bold pattern from taking over the room.

Sculpted ceiling — Aviary — 3BHK, Ghatlodiya — A sculpted ceiling of interlocking curves, lit from within the profile. Concealing the source means the ceiling reads as a lit form rather than as a fitting.

Washbasin — Aviary — 3BHK, Ghatlodiya — A washbasin set into timber panelling under an octagonal backlit mirror. Running the panelling floor to ceiling turns a utility corner into a finished elevation.

Dining — Aviary — 3BHK, Ghatlodiya — Blue upholstered chairs against warm timber panelling, with a framed painting set into the run. Recessing the frame into the joinery keeps the wall flush.

Diamond wardrobe — Aviary — 3BHK, Ghatlodiya — A sliding wardrobe divided on the diagonal into contrasting tones — one graphic gesture across what would otherwise be a flat run of doors.

Tv wall — Aviary — 3BHK, Ghatlodiya — The television set into a backlit recess in stone-effect panelling. Lighting the recess rather than the room keeps the screen from sitting in a dark void when it is off.
